Today I had the privilege of interviewing upcoming Author Arel B Grant, Author of The Razvak series.
The first book in the series is The Razvak Hunter.
Aelwyd has worked hard to become strong. As the Fairest One of Vallenthar, her power is formidable. Years of battle honed her into a fearsome warrior who never falters in front of an enemy.
However, there are shadows that when they come, they can swallow you whole.
After a hundred years of praying against it, the minute she walks into the chilling scene of death in front of her, she knows her personal nightmare is back.
He nearly destroyed her once, but she isn't a victim anymore. This time, she will stop him, or she will die trying.
Dalbran knows nothing of friends, joy, or mischief. The orphaned ward of a ruthless warrior woman, she’s never showed him love or affection. Instead she fills his days with learning the art of battle, savage teachings of how to survive in their harsh world. Days are filled with pain and exhaustion, but nighttime used to be his own. Even that is now lost, though, for something lurks in the shadows of sleep, clawing at him the moment his eyes close. He tells himself it’s okay, that he can handle it. However daunting the voices may be, however cold the hand that chokes him in the darkness, as long as it stays within the nightmare, everything will be all right.
As long as it stays within the nightmare…
1) Tell us about your upcoming release. Why is it different to other books?
My most recent release is Fantasy YA novel, The Razvak Hunter. I wanted it to be different from all the action-packed novels out there that focus only on portraying the greatest amount of fighting and blood they can fit in. The Razvak Hunter is about the characters, their motives, their lives, their emotions. They are the definite stars. With this, I wanted to create a more cerebral, more in-depth fantasy for those to whom the blood, gore and war do not appeal.
2) What inspired you to write the Razvak Series?
I would say it was probably a mix of everything. I started writing the Razvak Series almost ten years ago, when I was a teen, and at the time it was just a mixture of all the things I liked from my favorite novels like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings or Chronicles of Narnia. Needless to say, it has come a long way. I enjoyed the perspective of creating a different plotline, of a Fantasy that made look beyond the next fight with the dragon or quest of the elves.
3) How many will there be and when do you plan on having them all published?
The Razvak Series has 7 planned novels and one prequel novella. Right now I am working on Book 2 and (fingers crossed) it will be ready sometime around the last days of May. I plan on having a three-month publishing schedule, but that only if I can keep up with the flow. It’s exhausting but also rewarding, and even though I’m still just on the second part, I cannot wait to finish the entire Series so that people can learn about the characters I love and, perhaps, get to love them too.
4) Your covers are beautiful. Who designed them?
I am a designer for my day job, so I design all the covers and marketing for my books. In the future, if the series gathers a readership I would like to hire a proper illustrator to bring to the covers a greater sense of Fantasy, but still, I created the covers that better suit my original idea, and I am quite proud of the final result.
5) Who inspires you as a writer? (Who is your favourite author)
I would have to say definitely other writers. I think there is no writer that is not a reader, and I am definitely an eager one, especially of Fantasy and Romance. I love the works of Christine Feehan, J. R. Ward and Sherrilyn Kenyon, and also J. K. Rowling, Tolkien, Anne McCaffrey and C.S. Lewis. I would say my writing is definitely a mix of all the wonderful styles of these writers and every new book or every re-read of old masterpieces only encourages me to try harder and be better.
